Welding
Learn. Weld. Minister.
Educating students to function in a ministry setting while allowing them to receive licensure from the American Welding Society.
Program Overview
Knowing Christ and Making Him Known has been an integral part of the culture of Hobe Sound Bible College for many years. To that end, students are immersed in Bible knowledge and additional training that prepares many for specifically designated vocations in pastoral ministry, education, and missions.
HSBC has long recognized the value these educational programs offer to students who are responding to a call for full-time ministry. However, recognizing the often limited resources individuals may have as they enter full-time ministry, HSBC is launching a series of trade programs designed to create a path for the individual to supplement their income. The first trade to be offered is Welding. Beginning this fall, students at HSBC will be able to participate in courses designed to lead them to certification in Welding. Courses in traditional stick welding, MIG and TIG (Steel and aluminum) will be offered along with courses in Blueprint reading and Metallurgy. Additional courses in machining and lathing will round out this program.
Welding certification takes place through the American Welding Society. Through textbook learning and a series of online tests, specific knowledge sets are tested for accuracy and understanding. AWS provides certification at the completion of each stage of learning. HSBC has partnered with a local Master AWS instructor and Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) for the visual and strength inspection component of the weldments. Passing the visual and strength component of the weldment portion of the course, AWS provides additional certification to the student.
Welding is just the start of the training for trades program at HSBC. Courses in auto mechanics and HVAC are in the development stage to be introduced in succeeding years. Knowing the call of God will take our students around the globe and enable them to be involved in ministry anywhere, we want them to be equipped to serve any local community through secular employment as well.
In addition to being able to supplement income, some students are not called into full-time ministry. Thus, these programs will enable those students to enter the workforce with an understanding of their faith and the capabilities or articulating their faith through what they have learned at HSBC. Making Christ known through daily interactions with co-workers will come naturally as the students have been taught to Know Christ through the classroom experiences and practical applications.
With a desire to expand the variety of fields our students can comfortably pursue vocationally, HSBC has also recently launched a BA in Business with courses covering Financial Accounting, Business Communication, Business Economics, Strategic Planning, Organizational Behavior, and Spreadsheets to name a few. This program is designed to enable students to pursue careers in business with the necessary educational tools to be successful while also training students to be able to intentionally engage in a culture that may be initially opposed to a concept of absolute truth and the transforming power of Christ.
Hobe Sound Bible College stands on a distinguished history of placing graduates around the world in areas of full-time ministry. We now embrace that history and anticipate encouraging even more students in a broader spectrum of vocational fields where they can Make Christ Known.
